March 14th, 2011NewsThe research, consultation and conceptual design ideas produced by the students from the University of Sheffield School of Architecture has been compiled into an excellent book. The book is available to purchase online, or you can view one of the copies in your village Post Office or by contacting your Parish Council. This document provides a great starting point and source of inspiration for what can be achieved in our villages.
Books can be purchased here http://www.lulu.com/product/paperback/wallingfen-way-project/14616945
Note the price of the book is the ‘print cost’, we do not add any profit. -
January 22nd, 2011NewsDo let us have your views and suggestions about improvements along the B1230.
Each Village is developing a list of ‘actions’.
Current ideas include:- new signs (footpaths) and new village entrance signs, tree and shrub planting, litter pick, removal of the footbridges, tidy up frontage to the Recreation Hall in Newport, etc.
Unfortunately we can’t include things in this Project that are the statutory responsibility of East Riding Council Highways Dept. e.g. Footpaths, Parking, road signs, speed reduction measures.
Please post your ideas as comments by clicking on the title above, and writing in the text box at the bottom of the page.

‘Replacing a Scar on the Landscape with a Rural Community Corridor’
The Wallingfen Way is a visionary concept aiming to remove ‘a scar on the landscape’ (the B1230) and replace it with a coherent boulevard known as Wallingfen Way, a distinct rural community corridor. The Project aims to reinforce the distinctive character and identity of three Howdenshire villages, Gilberdyke, Newport and North Cave, to reclaim the road for the local community. -
